To join a meeting, simply click on the Join Zoom meeting link and follow the prompts. We suggest that you sign in a few minutes early to address any problems that might arise. When on a PC, the attendee controls appear at the bottom of your screen.

When using a MAC, the attendee controls appear at the top of the screen. At the top right of your screen, you will see the words — Gallery View or Speaker View. This is what you need to know. Zoom Client allows participants to join meetings without downloading any plugins or software. It works similar to an app on a mobile device and does not require you to open an internet browser. To join a meeting using Zoom Client, open the application on your computer.

This information must be provided to you by the host. If the host emailed the invitation to you, it would be located below the URL link. The meeting ID is usually a series of numbers.

You must provide a name to appear in the participants list for the meeting. You can also choose to have your audio and video off upon entering the meeting by checking those boxes.

There are a couple of things you should do before every meeting to ensure a better experience while using Zoom. If you are a first-time user, there are a couple of additional items you may want to try further down.

As a first-time user, you will want to download the free desktop or mobile client for Zoom. This can be done either from the zoom. Once downloaded and installed you will not need to do so again, though you will want to ensure it is updated. Passcode: This security setting helps to ensure that only intended guests can access your meeting.

Zoom will automatically generate a passcode of random numbers or letters, but you can change it to something that’s easier to remember. Waiting Room: Another security setting, this one requires the host to admit users one by one to the meeting.

Video: Select on or off for the host and participants to determine whether or not their video feed will be turned on when joining. If you choose on, the host and participants can still choose to turn off their video feed, and vice versa.

Advanced Options: Pretty self-explanatory, advanced options will vary depending on the type of Zoom account you have. They can include allowing participants to join at anytime, muting participants upon entering the meeting, and automatically recording the meeting on the local computer.

When I’m on with three of my girlfriends, though, that’s one where there’s much less structure. We just try to take turns talking and stay mindful of how long we’ve been talking.

I do mute myself and unmute myself just so that there’s no background noise while other people are talking. I really encourage the leaders of a group, if you’ve got a slightly messy situation going on, to do that. It cuts down on noise big time. Use features like the hand raise feature, too.
